Charles Rufus Morey Book Award
The Charles Rufus Morey Book Award, named in honor of one of the founding members of CAA and first teachers of art history in the United States, was established in 1953. This award honors an especially distinguished book in the history of art, published in the English language in the penultimate year from September 1, 2007 through August 31, 2008. Preference is given in the award of the prize to books, including catalogues raisonnés, by a single author, but major publications in the form of articles or group studies may be included. Publication of documents or inventories, unless specifically in the context of an exhibition, are also eligible.
Submission Guidelines
- A publisher may submit a maximum of five titles for this award. In addition, CAA accepts nominations from its membership, jury members, and its book-review editors and field editors.
- Publishers may not submit the same book for the Morey and Barr book awards. The Morey jury does not accept exhibition catalogues.
- Eligible books must have been published between September 1, 2007 and August 31, 2008. CAA and each jury member must receive a copy of the nominated book by July 31, 2008. A total of 6 copies of the book must be sent. To give the jury full opportunity to evaluate each submission fairly, please submit materials well before the deadline.
- To complete your nomination, a nomination form must be submitted; one book must be sent to each member of the jury, and one to CAA. To receive the mailing addresses for the jury please email Emmanuel Lemakis, CAA Director of Programs. The deadline is July 31, 2008.
