Exhibitions at the Annual Conference
CAA sponsors semiannual exhibitions, including shows of work by artists in MFA and BFA programs, that are on view during the Annual Conference.
Regional MFA Exhibition
Representatives from colleges, universities, or art schools in the conference city organize an annual group exhibition of student work from MFA programs in the region around the conference city.
New York 2011: Graduate students from twenty schools within one hundred miles of New York will participate in the College Art Association NY Area MFA Exhibition, on view February 9–April 9, 2011, at the Hunter College/Times Square Gallery. An opening reception will be held during the CAA Annual Conference on Friday evening, February 11, 6:00–9:00 PM.
Chicago 2010: The Regional MFA Exhibition did not take place during the 2010 Annual Conference in Chicago.
Los Angeles 2009: The Roski School of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles hosted the week-long CAA Los Angeles MFA Exhibition, which showcased the work of a unique, diverse community of student artists in graduate programs in southern California.
Regional BFA Exhibition
New York 2011: Seventeen undergraduate artists from seven New York–area schools will have work in the College Art Association Regional BFA Exhibition. Hosted by the New York Center for Art and Media Studies (NYCAMS) in Manhattan, the exhibition will be on view February 7–25, 2011, with an opening reception taking place on Friday evening, February 11, 6:00–9:00 PM.
CAA Annual Exhibition
New York 2011: A CAA Annual Exhibition will not take place at the 99th Annual Conference and Centennial Kickoff in New York in 2011.
Chicago 2010: Picturing the Studio was on view December 12, 2009–February 13, 2010, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Sullivan Galleries. Curated by Michelle Grabner and Annika Marie, the show explored the richly complex, politically and psychologically charged notion of the artist’s studio through the work of contemporary makers. Los Angeles 2009: Curated by Mary Nooter Roberts, Continental Rifts: Contemporary Time-Based Works of Africa took place February 22–June 14, 2009, at the Fowler Museum at the University of California, Los Angeles. Continental Rifts was presented in the Getty Gallery, the Fowler Museum’s largest space for temporary exhibitions.
