Past Fellowship Recipients

Below are links to the biographies of CAA fellowship recipients and honorable mentions from recent years. A list of fellows and honorable mentions from 1993 to 2001 is forthcoming in 2012. Because of a temporary suspension, CAA did not award fellowships in 2009.

2012 Fellows and Honorable Mentions

The two recipients of the 2012 fellowships for art history are: Susanna Berger, University of Cambridge; and Jennifer Reut, University of Virginia. These MFA candidates received the 2012 fellowships for artists: Selin Balci, University of Maryland, College Park; Julie Casper Roth, University at Albany, State University of New York; James Coquia, California College of the Arts; Claudia Mastrobuono, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth; and Ander Mikalson, Virginia Commonwealth University.

Four PhD students in art history earned honorable mentions: Sarah Archino, Graduate Center, City University of New York; Shira Brisman, Yale University; Brianne Cohen, University of Pittsburgh; and Lucia Henderson, Harvard University. In addition, three artists were awarded honorable mentions: Cindy Mason, University of South Florida; Ragen Moss, University of California, Los Angeles; and Amy Santoferraro, New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred University.

2010–11 Fellows and Honorable Mentions

The artist recipients are: Alma Leiva, Virginia Commonwealth University; Sheryl Oring, University of California, San Diego; Brittany Ransom, University of Illinois, Chicago; Mina T. Son, Stanford University; and Amanda Valdez, Hunter College, City University of New York.

The five artists who received honorable mentions are: Maria Antelman, Columbia University; Caetlynn Booth, Rutgers University; Gregory Hayes, Brooklyn College, City University of New York; Ashley Lyon, Virginia Commonwealth University; and Georgia Wall, School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

2008 Fellows and Honorable Mentions

The artist recipients are Mary Reid Kelley and Justin Shull. Nichole N. Bridges and Wendy Ikemoto received the art-history fellowships. Honorable mentions went to the artists Dara Greenwald, Julie Ann Nagle, and Will Tucker, and to the art historians Alpesh Kantilal Patel and Amy Von Lintel.

2007 Fellows and Honorable Mentions

Hagit Barkai received the artist fellowship, and Nouchinne Nini Lavasani was the art-historian fellow. Three artists—Michelle Dizon, Courtney M. Leonard, and Erika Navarrete—were recognized with honorable mentions, as was the art historian Charles A. Stewart.

2006 Fellows and Honorable Mentions

Eva Diaz, Álvaro Ibarra, and Jennifer King are recipients of fellowships in art history. On the artists’ side are LaToya Ruby Frazier and Christopher Scott Lowther. Honorable mentions were Kate Palmer, an art historian, and Amy Yao, an artist.

2005 Fellows and Honorable Mentions

The artist fellows are Tammy Renée Brackett and Lauren Woods. Erin Aldana and Heather Lee McCarthy received the art-history fellowships. The juries gave honorable mentions to Adrienne Pao in art and Keith Jordan in art history.

2004 Fellows and Honorable Mentions

Receiving the art-historian fellowships are Glaire D. Anderson and Carmenita Higginbotham. Jennifer Dudley and Brenna Chee Youngblood won the fellowships for artists. Christine Lee won an honorable mention for artists, and Jeanne Nugent did the same for art history.

2003 Fellows and Honorable Mentions

Lisa Bradley and Jonathan Gitelson are recipients of fellowships for artists. The art-historian fellows are Erina Duganne, James C. Hughes, Linda Kim, and Megan Smetzer. CAA also named two honorable mentions: Catherine Caesar, a PhD candidate, and Jessica Mallios, an MFA student.

2002 Fellows and Honorable Mentions

Erika Vogt is the artist fellow, and Jason Weems is the art-historian fellow. Risë Wilson received a fellowship for a combination of art and African studies. The juries also chose two honorable mentions: Victor De La Rosa, an artist; and Julia Friedman, an art historian.
