Deadline: Sun, January 14th, 2018

2018/2019 Bernheim Artist in Residence Call for Applications Now Open. Deadline for submissions are midnight EST, January 14th, 2018.

In conjunction with this annual call, we are awarding one Regional Artist in Residence with a $1000 honorarium to artists currently residing in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

The Artist in Residence Program at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is awarded on an annual basis to artists who are selected to create works within the forest and/or arboretum that are inspired by and potentially installed in the natural world. This program enhances the visitor experience through interaction with art and artists, while fulfilling Bernheim’s mission of connecting people to nature.  Bernheim is most interested in work that furthers expands the artist’s practice and the interplay between visual art and the natural world. The Artist in Residence Program is available to all visual and mixed media artists in any medium including sound, installation and architecture. Applicants may be emerging or established artists on a regional, national or international level. Up to four artists a year will live in residence at Bernheim for 6 weeks to 3 months where they create, explore and challenge our notions of nature-related art, experimenting through discovery and research. Bernheim provides living quarters, an honorarium of $2500 and studio space in exchange for a site-specific sculpture, project or exhibition, with at least one mutually agreed upon work of art left to the Bernheim Foundation. Also required is some form of public engagement such as a lecture, workshop or demonstration.
