Borgeson Artist in Residence

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: Hope College
Deadline: Thu, February 1st, 2018

Inaugurated in 2016, the Borgeson Artist in Residence Program is a twelve-week summer artist residency for early and mid-career artists, hosted by the Department of Art & Art History at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, that runs from mid-May through mid-August of each year.

The residency provides housing, studio space in the Department of Art and Art History, a financial  stipend and a one-month exhibition at Hope College’s 1,300 square foot De Pree Art Gallery at the conclusion of the residency. The exhibition opens in late August and runs through September. The residency stipend is paid in two installments, at the beginning of the residency and in September, at the close of the exhibition.

The resident artist is contracted to be in their studio at the De Pree Art Center throughout the residency and to be available for 2-3 student or community-centered events. This might include a workshop, lecture, critiques or studio visits with students, alumni, or the broader West Michigan community.

As part of the residency’s goal to create opportunities for our students and the larger campus community, the department hosts an artist’s lecture, closing reception and related programming in conjunction with the AIR exhibition in September.

Details regarding the provided studio space, housing, department facilities and gallery, and past residents can be found on the department’s website: http://www.hope.edu/academics/art-and-art-history/special-programs-opportunities/borgeson-residency.html
