The 8th International Conference of Contemporary Cast Iron Art invites artists to submit work for 2018 ICCCIA Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition. This juried exhibition will display 10 to 13 large-scale sculptures throughout the Lackawanna Heritage Valley and the areas surrounding Scranton, PA. All accepted works will have been created by registered participants of ICCCIA.  Artists are encouraged to consider the conference theme, "Post Industrial Iron: Divergence, Dialog, and New Directions." The goal of this exhibition is to showcase sculptures that relate closely to the Lackawanna Heritage Valley’s industrial history. The 2018 call for entries welcomes submissions from locally, regionally, nationally and internationally exhibiting artists. The sculptures selected for the 2018 ICCCIA Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition will be exhibited in three distinct locations throughout Lackawanna Heritage Valley from May 28, 2018 to May 30, 2019.

Exhibition locations:
The Lackawanna River Heritage Trail (LRHT)  - LRHT is a linear, interpretive path. It not only connects communities, but it’s also the spine of the Lackawanna Greenway.  In addition to its uses for health, fitness, recreation, socialization, enjoyment of the outdoors, alternative transportation and access to the river, the trail also provides a close view of important remnants of the region’s history and culture. Confluence: Art on the Trail is the result of a collaborative effort among Keystone College, Keystone Iron Works, Lackawanna County Department of Arts and Culture and the Lackawanna Heritage Valley.  Aptly named for the confluence of the Lackawanna and Susquehanna Rivers, as well as the coming together of arts, culture, the environment and diverse organizations, this endeavor was made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Railroad Station #1 - This location offers one pad for outdoor sculpture.  It is located at the railroad station #1 in East Stroudsburg, PA.  The site will be of the 2018 ICCCIA performance festivities during the conference.

Railroad Station #2 - This location offers one pad for outdoor sculpture.  It is location at the railroad station #2 in Tobyhanna, PA.  The site will be part of the 2018 ICCCIA performance festivities during the conference.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: April 1, 2018

Exhibition : May 28, 2018–May 30, 2019

APPLY: Eligibility: The 2018 ICCCIA Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition submission process is open to all delegates who are registered participants of ICCCIA.  

Media: All accepted works must be suitable for outdoor installation and durable enough to withstand adverse weather conditions including high winds, extreme temperatures as well as rain, snow and ice storms. All works must be professionally constructed of durable materials with no easily damaged elements and be suitable enough for exterior public display with no maintenance required during the exhibition period. 

Number of entries: Entry is limited to 3 pieces per artist. Three views of each work will be accepted. All works entered must have been created within the last five years or may be subject to omission from the selection process. The curator reserves the right to disqualify any work not reflecting the specifications of the exhibition. 

Form: All entries must have a completed entry form (ENTRY FORM) or the works will not be considered.

Entry specifications: All submitted images must be named with artist’s last name (underscore) entry number (corresponding to the entry number on the application form). For example: Jones_1.jpg. Please DO NOT include any other information in the  name, such as title of work, etc.  Images  should be in HIGH QUALITY JPEG format. Images should be no smaller than 1200 pixels in any direction (about 13”) and a resolution of 72 ppi. Be sure you are sending files at the correct size AND that your email software does not automatically downsize the attached images when sending.  Images must be oriented properly (i.e. top of image is top of artwork) and should not include text info or borders that are not part of the actual work.  Detail images must include the word ‘detail’ in the file  name (i.e. Jones_1detail1.jpg, Jones_1detail2.jpg).

Entries must be received no later than 11:59pm EST on  April 1, 2018. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. 

ENTRY FEE: There is no fee for this exhibition.

SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection committee is composed of representatives from ICCCIA, the City of Scranton, and the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority. This committee will make exhibition selections from the submitted digital entries. The committee will also select the location for installation of each sculpture. 

Approximately 10-13 works will be chosen for installation and will be exhibited at the discretion of the selection committee throughout the Lackawanna Heritage Valley. The selected works must be able to be exhibited and remain on loan from the artist from May 28, 2018 through May 30, 2019 without maintenance.  

All accepted works must be suitable for outdoor installation and durable enough to withstand adverse weather conditions including high winds, extreme temperatures as well as rain, snow and ice storms. All works must be professionally constructed of durable materials with no easily damaged elements and be suitable enough for exterior public display with no maintenance required during the exhibition period. 

Selected applicants will either be given a $500 travel award or have their sculpture purchased. Works for sale should be under $3000.00. All works selected but not purchased will remain on site through May 30, 2019. Purchased works become the property of Confluence Sculpture Park. 


All of the 2018 ICCCIA Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition sites are in moderate to heavy pedestrian traffic areas. Works submitted must take into account the safety of this pedestrian traffic. All works must be securely attached to a durable steel mounting plate in order for the piece to be bolted to a concrete slab. ICCCIA and the LHVA are able to provide equipment and personnel for assistance in securing the works on each site. Specific installation dates will need to be arranged if a crane or lifting device is needed for installation. Please indicate if you will need a crane on the application form for each submission. The 2018 ICCCIA, the City of Scranton, and the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority reserves the right to document all work submitted for educational and publicity purposes without compensation.
