“Initial Stages and Fine Lines”

September 2018 JURIED SHOW

 

OPPORTUNITY AND ELIGIBILITY:  

A Different Path Gallery, located in Brockport, New York is pleased to announce an opportunity for U.S. artists of all age groups and styles (mediums restricted to pen and ink, graphite, charcoal, and pastel) to exhibit their work that features Initial Stages (which includes preliminary sketches) and Fine Lines (finished work).

ABOUT THE GALLERY:

A Different Path Gallery is a not-for-profit gallery located in the heart of Brockport, New York by the historic Erie Canal. The gallery was established in 2010 with the focus of supporting emerging and established artists of all ages and mediums, as well as to bring fine arts to the local Brockport community. The gallery also hosts monthly literary readings, weekly music events, and dance performances from local and national artists.

EXHIBITION DATES:

September 7 – September 28, 2018

 

OPENING RECEPTION:

September 7, 2018 from 7- 9 pm

 

JUROR(s):  

Katherine Weston: (Juror/Curator) is the owner and gallery director of A Different Path Gallery. She has a Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan, and has been active in the art field for more than thirty years. She has won numerous awards for her work in printmaking and mixed media.

Awards Juror (TBD) will be selected from local artists having extensive knowledge in 2-D art and design.

 

HONORS AND AWARDS:  

Best of show will receive $100 and an opportunity to have a solo show at the gallery.

1 or more Honorable mentions will be awarded

 

HOW TO ENTER THE JURIED SHOW:

-Select artwork consistent with the theme “Initial Stages and Fine Lines.” The theme has been chosen to be inclusive of both in-progress and completed works. This exhibit is open to artists in the U.S. working in graphite, pen & ink, charcoal, and pastel. Everything from preliminary sketches to final pieces are eligible. The work must be able to stand on its own even if it was done as a preliminary sketch for a painting or other piece of art.

 

-Submit your images via email: up to four images may be submitted to be juried. Images must be in jpeg or jpg format at least 72 dpi resolution. Digital image files must be submitted to: differentpath27@gmail.com as jpegs (or jpg).  This is the only means of submission.

-Mail, email or hand-deliver: completed submission form and $20 entry fee (each entry may include up to 4 images).  Entry form is available on the website: www.differentpathgallery.com). Entries must be received by: August 15th.

JURYING:

-The juror(s) for A Different Path Gallery will make the final selection.

-On the submission form, fully describe the dimensions of each piece of artwork.

-jpeg File names must be consistent with entry form.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE:

-Letters of acceptance will be emailed after the August 15th, 2018 deadline.

 

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:

-The Submitted artwork must be original. No reproductions will be accepted.

-All entries must be of original design and personal execution.

-Accepted work may not be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition on September 28, 2018.

-A Different Path Gallery will retain a 10% commission on all sales made during the exhibition. An insurance value (i.e. material costs to reproduce) and a sale price, which includes the commission fee, must be included on the submission form.

ACCEPTED ARTWORK (please read BEFORE calling or emailing with questions):

-The focus of “Initial Stages and Fine Lines” is to feature artwork professionally presented in a gallery setting. Finished pieces must be matted and framed properly (with wire) for hanging (no sawtooth hangers or loops that hang from the backing board).  Professional quality presentation is expected on all finished artwork.  

- If your accepted work is unframed/unmatted work, it will be considered preliminary work.  Any artwork that is unframed will be hung using binder clips or push pins. If you object to this type of hanging, you must provide a means to hang your work.

-The curator reserves the right to refuse any entry because of special conditions of installation or if the quality of the work was not accurately represented in the submitted images.

-Please contact A Different Path Gallery with any questions about the presentation of your accepted artwork.

*** Do NOT send work early or pick up late. This is a small, privately-owned gallery with very little storage space.

 

LIABILITY/DELIVERY/ RETRIEVAL:

- A Different Path Gallery will insure artwork while on site at the gallery for the insurance value indicated on the submission form. Insurance for the artwork during shipping and transit to/from the gallery is the responsibility of the entrant.

-All accepted artwork must arrive at the gallery between August 28th and August 31st, 2018 ready to install.

-A Different Path Gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

-Artists are responsible for all shipping costs including insurance. Work must be shipped in a substantial, reusable container with a pre-paid return label included. The gallery will not be responsible for any damage that occurs during shipping.

-Prompt retrieval of artwork after the exhibit is necessary. Artwork needs to be picked up September 29th OR October 2nd by 4:00 pm each day. If not picked up in person, arrangements for packaging and shipping artwork are the responsibility of the artist as stated above. Artwork will not be stored at the gallery after October 2nd.
