Enos Park & University of Illinois Springfield: Funded Summer Residency and Exhibition

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: University of Illinois Springfield
Deadline: Mon, April 30th, 2018

The Enos Park Residency for Visual Artists & the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) Visual Arts Gallery have partnered to offer a funded summer residency and exhibition. We welcome applications from emerging, mid-career, and established contemporary artists working in all media, and especially those interested in community engagement, social practice, and socially-engaged works.

Artists will reside at the Enos Park Residency for Visual Artists duplex as they develop new work for the exhibit. The residency start date is flexible depending on the needs of the artist and proposed project, but can last anywhere between four to eight weeks --- and so the residency start date would fall between June 1st and August 4th, as dictated by the artist. A correlating exhibition will open at the UIS Visual Arts Gallery on either Thursday, July 12th or Thursday, July 19th (the opening date will mold to the artist timeline as requested) and run for three weeks. We welcome time-based and interactive exhibition models, and we seek an artist that is open to engaging with our student community at UIS.

The Enos Park Residency for Visual Artists provides a private bedroom with a shared kitchen and bathroom, studio facilities, studio visits with visiting artists and curators, opportunities to present lectures/discussions/workshops, and assistance with forging community/city partnerships as desired. The UIS Visual Arts Gallery will offer a $1,000 stipend to apply to materials and travel. A discounted residency fee of $25/week is required.

A full application includes the following:
-Proposal: Please send a proposal that details your plans for the duration of the residency and the resultant exhibition
-Dates: Identify your start/end dates for the residency and preferred exhibition opening date
-Artist Statement: Please send a statement that will offer context in the review of your work samples.
-Work Samples: A portfolio of 10 to 20 examples of work completed in the past three years. We will review still images and/or video sent via link to cloud file or website (please do not email image/video files directly).
-Image List: Please provide a corresponding image list that will provide title, date, size, media, and any other applicable information for your Work Sample materials.
-CV/Resume
-References: Please provide contact information for two professional references that can speak to your investment in the field of visual arts as well as your ability to live in and contribute to a community.

The deadline to apply is April 30th. To submit your application, email materials to info@enosparkresidency.org with the subject line “Funded Residency” by April 30th.
