Posted by: Sculpture Space, Inc.
Deadline: Fri, April 27th, 2018

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Sculptors face immense challenges as they prepare for success as an arts professional in the 21st century. Sculpture Space is offering a two-week, hands-on incubator to foster and facilitate the professional goals of the emerging sculptor. This program will provide an immersive and synergetic approach to studio practice and professional development.

This is an unparalleled opportunity for sculpture majors who are between their undergraduate and graduate pursuits and is designed to strengthen skills, studio practice and professional development in a focused environment under the supportive guidance of professionals in a fully-equipped facility.

This Sculptural Intensive will revolve around creating individual work with open access to a guest instructor. Along with the creation of new work, each artist will go through daily instruction in professional development, combined with studio visits and guest lectures. The program will culminate in an exhibition of the new work open to the public.

ABOUT SCULPTURE SPACE:

Sculpture Space, located in Utica, New York provides residencies for artists whose focus is sculpture.

We offer a 5,500 square foot shared studio with specialized equipment in addition to private studios.  The Studio Manager provides ongoing assistance and technical expertise.

The studio and house are located in the eclectic, diverse and upcoming West Utica neighborhood — close to downtown, and situated in Central New York’s scenic Mohawk Valley.  As a result of Sculpture Space’s long history and presence in Utica, the community is supportive and receptive.

Since 1976, Sculpture Space has helped to support the careers and studio practice of over 550 national and international artists from around the world.  As desired, artists and arts professionals (including curators and writers) are invited for informal studio visits. The collaborative environment of the studio and the communal aspects of the residence help foster dialogue, exchange of ideas, creative experimentation and both personal and professional connections.  In addition to the CHAIRity fundraiser in September/October, the public is invited to Works in Progress receptions (held every few months); other visits are arranged by appointment.
