A ten-month residency at The Umbrella Community Arts Center in Concord, MA. Free studio and housing provided.
The Umbrella Community Arts Center in Concord, MA is proud to continue its Artist-in-Residence program for 2018-2019. The program provides space and support for an emerging artist to develop their work while connecting to the Greater Boston art community.
About the Umbrella
Our mission is to enriche lives and build a vibrant community through the arts. We inspire creativity, learning, and personal growth through arts education programs, performing and visual arts presentations, and community collaborations.
We provide:
• Studio space for more than 50 artists
• Classes and workshops for children and adults in four large teaching studios
• Exhibition space in the Gallery
• Community arts initiatives, including the Musketaquid Arts & Environment program
• Performance space for all disciplines
Residency Requirements
Regular, active, and productive use of the studio space from October 1st, 2018 through August 15th, 2019.
Present work in a gallery showing. Note that while under construction, our gallery programs have hit the road and are presented in partnership with local galleries in the Greater Merrimack River Valley.
Present a minimum of three public programs. This could be an artist talk, workshop or other format for engaging with our community.
Monthly documentation their residency in blog posts, videos, photographs, etc.
Residency Awards
Free studio space of approximately 130 square feet.
Free housing in a one bedroom cottage adjacent to the studio space.
Participation in any of our Studio Arts events.
Qualifications
Must be an emerging artist within five years of their most recent degree and not enrolled full-time in an academic program.
Supported media include, but are not limited to: painting, works on paper, mixed media, performance art, photography, and video art.
The studio does not support writers/poets, large scale 3-D work, ceramics, or any processes that create excessive noise or fumes.

All applications will be reviewed by a jury of The Umbrella’s staff and resident artists. The selected artist will be notified by June 1, 2018.
