Painting one-week immersion workshop: Alla Prima Oil Painting

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: MONTGOMERY COLLEGE
Deadline: Mon, July 9th, 2018

Immerse yourself! These one-week intensive workshops allow you to focus entirely on learning a new skill. Each workshop is led by a successful professional in her or his field. This class is geared toward professionals and highly experienced amateurs.

Topic: Alla Prima Oil Painting
Discover how to tap into the expressive potential of alla prima painting, a technique favored by artists such as Diego Velázquez, Jan van Eyck, Vincent van Gough, and John Singer Sargent. This technique allows the artist to paint wet-on-wet, instead of waiting for paint to dry between applications. We will hold painting sessions in the studio, working from a live model and still life. Be prepared to explore working large-scale: our canvases will be no smaller than 72x52”!

Instructor: David Ibata
David Ibata is an American painter from the Washington DC metropolitan area. He received his education from the Corcoran College of Art & Design followed by the New York Academy of Art, and has been a copyist at the National Gallery of Art since 2012. His work focuses on narrative painting and portraiture and takes inspiration from his immersion from a young age in contemporary cinema and philosophy, and the artist’s own personal history.
