Call for submissions to the journal Paragone Past and Present

Type: Calls For Papers [View all]
Posted by: Society for Paragone Studies
Deadline: Sun, December 15th, 2019

CALL FOR JOURNAL SUBMISSIONS:

The journal Paragone Past & Present seeks submissions for its bi-annual issues. The journal is published by Brill (Netherlands) as of 2019 through the Society for Paragone Studies (a SECAC affiliate and an academic association dedicated to furthering study of the history of artistic rivalry). It produces two issues per year in both online and hard copy format available through membership in the Society (http://blogs.umflint.edu/paragonesociety/). The journal is an inter-disciplinary, international publication.

About the Journal: Paragone Past and Present is dedicated to featuring scholarship on the history of competition between the arts from antiquity into the present. Rivalry is interpreted in the broadest terms from all global contexts. For instance, scholars consider rivalries between individual artists, patrons of the arts, nationalistic competition, aesthetic theory, arts-related organisations, debates over the superiority of one art versus another, ut pictura poesis and word/image studies, etc. Examples of relevant artistic media include graphic design, animation, painting, sculpture, performance, conceptual art, music, literature, theatre, dance, film, and others. Many scholarly disciplines in the humanities will represent the study of these media, such as literary history, philosophy, critical theory, visual communications, art history, and musicology. Shorter entries from practicing artists regarding how their practice is affected by competition are also welcome.

How to Apply: Please submit articles to Brill’s author submission platform: https://brill.com/page/submittingonline/submitting-a-journal-article-online#authors.
Submissions may be made at any point in the journal’s publication cycle, but the current call is for 2019-2020 submissions. Articles submitted by February 15th will be eligible for possible publication within 2019. There is no limit on the length of articles, but typical articles will fall between 8 000 and 18 000 words, including endnotes. Each submission should consist of the following electronic files: 1) author’s curriculum vitae; 2) title page; 3) 200-word abstract with article word count listed; 4) 1-2 paragraph letter of interest in publishing with the Journal; 5) blind copy of the article’s text, footnotes, list of figures, and any illustrations (or tables, etc.); 6) bibliography; 7) 200-word ‘About the author’ caption. Please also notify the Editor-in-Chief Dr. Sarah Lippert by e-mail when a submission has been uploaded (paragonestudies@gmail.com).

Peer-Review Process: The journal conducts a rigorous process of double-blind peer review for all submissions.
