Residency Opportunity

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: International Artists Residency Exchange
Deadline: Wed, July 3rd, 2019

This flexible program is designed for the professional to leisure artists to live and create in France, in a fully equipped, significantly subsidized, ceramic studio. All arts are welcome.

The I.A.R.E studio located in France’s Var region, is nestled in the port town of beautiful Saint-Raphaël, and is near several other exciting places: the historic port town of Fréjus with its Roman ruins, the Côte d’Azur and a mountainous area called l’Esterel, where hikers, bikers and nature lovers thrive. Beach lovers will also be in sandy heaven, gazing at the red rocks and the intense azure skies of the Mediterranean.

With beautiful northwestern light from the wall of windows, artists are free to stretch out and explore as they create.  It’s easy to forget the practicalities we offer, like plenty of parking, nearby hardware store, organic market, supermarket, and bakeries within a 10 minute walk. The bus stop is on the corner, even though our studio is in a quiet, residential area where our students feel safe and stimulated to work at any hour.

Program

Why exchange?? Exchange is the central theme to this program. Exchange in conversation, learning process, exchange with another culture, and cultures, other artists, and the internal exchange that happens as we develop our artwork. This is an opportunity to work with other artists, exchange ideas, develop new relationships, network, be open to new influences, experiment, and develop one’s art. As a group experience, there is greater opportunity for creating memories, exchanging techniques, sharing inspirations, and the development of relationships.

The program is flexible,1 week to 3 months, with a preference, and price-break, for longer stays. Groups are also encouraged. The studio is fully equipped with 2 kilns, a slab roller, wheels, tables and tools. We can accommodate other artists, as there is space for painting, drawing, sculpture or other accommodations in media. There is an area for exhibition as work develops. Materials will be purchased upon arrival, and all subsequent visits to the ceramic supplier can be arranged. All artists have available assistance in any area they need.
