Deadline: Sun, September 15th, 2019
The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) is accepting applications for the Anne Spencer Fellowship, to be awarded for a residency in 2020.
The Fellowship is named in honor of noted Harlem Renaissance poet, teacher, civil rights activist, librarian, gardener, and longtime Lynchburg resident, Anne Spencer (1882-1975), whose lasting artistic impact derives both from her inspiring body of work as a poet and from the creative community she assembled around her from near and far.
The Anne Spencer Fellowship is a fully-funded one-month residency that includes a private bedroom, individual studio, and all meals provided in a community of more than 20 other artists. The fellowship also includes a $1,500 honorarium for travel and expenses. The Fellowship rotates annually between the genres served at VCCA and this year will be awarded to a visual artist. As part of their residency, each Anne Spencer Fellow will engage with the Anne Spencer Memorial Foundation Inc., in Lynchburg, VA.
Applications are open to African-American visual artists, both locally and nationally. This juried fellowship will be awarded on a competitive basis, and the selection will be made based on the quality of the work.
The deadline for applications is September 15, 2019.
