Dumbarton Oaks offers residential fellowships in its three areas of study: Byzantine Studies (including related aspects of late Roman, early Christian, western Medieval, Slavic, and Near Eastern Studies), Pre-Columbian Studies (of Mexico, Central America, and Andean South America), and Garden and Landscape Studies.
An international group of scholars is invited to spend an academic year or summer pursuing individual research. In addition, Dumbarton Oaks offers Short-Term Pre-Doctoral Residencies to advanced graduate students and One-Month Post-Doctoral Stipends to scholars working on research projects.
A program of project grants primarily supports archaeological research, as well as materials analysis and photographic surveys of objects and monuments.
The deadlines for applications are November 1 for fellowships, project grants, and Short-Term Pre-Doctoral Residencies, and October 15 and February 15 for One-Month Post-Doctoral Stipends.
