Position Title: Publications and Programs Editor
Supervisor: Editorial Director

Founded in 1911, the College Art Association (CAA) is the preeminent international leadership organization in the visual arts, promoting the field through intellectual engagement, advocacy, programs and a commitment to the diversity of practices and practitioners.  Each year, CAA offers an Annual Conference, publishes two scholarly journals and offers a variety of other programs. CAA has more than 9,000 members worldwide. The majority of members are curators, art historians, scholars, visual artists, and designers.

Responsibilities:

The Publications and Programs Editor works on CAA’s peer-reviewed publications and programs to ensure that the highest standards of publishing and writing are maintained:

  • Copyedits and proofreads texts forreviews
  • Acts a primary liaison to commissioning editors and reviewers for caa.reviews
  • Copyedits reviews texts for The Art Bulletin and Art Journal
  • Working with the Director for Programs and Publications, copyedits and writes content for Annual Conference and other program publications
  • Ensures that reviews are in compliance with CAA publication policies, including conflict of interest guidelines
  • Confirms that fair use assertions, image rights, and permissions are vetted prior to publication; maintains records of all permissions for the journals
  • Attends editorial board meetings
  • Attends and works at the CAA Annual Conference, which may involve one week’s travel each year
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in art history
  • Excellent writing, verbal, proofreading, communication, time, and project-management skills
  • A minimum of three (3) years editing experience
  • Experience writing programmatic and marketing text
  • Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and quality expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Flexibility, creativity, and initiative
  • Pleasant demeanor
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, and basic web-editing skills
  • Ability to work resourcefully and adapt to changing needs within the department
  • Some night and weekend work may be required
