CALL FOR WORKS AND PAPERS
RECHERCHE
March 30th – April 7th, 2009
For Proust, recherche involved a quest to retrieve time itself through the recollection of memory. What happens when we conduct our own recherche (search, remembrance, pursuit) into the individual universes each of us inhabits? Recherce acts in the liminal space between a sensory present and the ever-receding memories of our selves. Nearly a century after Proust, memory remains an enigma in the philosophical, artistic, and scientific realms. We are subject to distortions of memory, creating imaginary scenarios that may prove to be as real as an ‘actual’ past. To what extent is recherche possible, and where is it disrupted? How can we express the results of this experience, the voyage into the forgotten spaces of ourselves, outwardly to others?
We invite participants to a salon-style event in the spirit of intertextuality. Please contact rechercheSB@gmail.com for submission instructions and full details.
