Cybersex: What's Art got to do with it? (CAA Chicago 2010)

Category: Calls For Papers [View all]
Posted by: Oakland University
Deadline: 08/15/09

While it is arguable that looking at pornography online equates actual sexual acts performed with the aid of computer communication technologies, the connection between mediated visual stimulation with desire exists. A percentage of the people looking at porn and partaking on cybersex consists of artists. Their interaction with these technologies and peer users could potentially inform/influence their artistic endeavors. This panel aims to examine the varied form in which artists explore and present sexuality and the Internet in their works. This panel is open to varied methods of delivery for paper, such as remote/pre-recorded/virtual casting, live performance, etc (specify in your proposal). Presentations from artists, performers, historians, theorists, and critics are welcomed. Proposals (two pages maximum) must be accompanied by labeled visual materials (pdf and URLs preferred). Email all materials to whitehea@oakland.edu, with the subject CYBERSEX ART PANEL
