NEH fellowships are for persons who have already completed their formal professional training. Degree candidates and persons seeking support for work in pursuit of a degree are not eligible. Foreign nationals who have been US residents for at least 3 years immediately preceding the application deadline for the fellowship are eligible. Preference will be given to individuals who have not held long-term fellowships during the 3 years preceding the period for which the application is being made.

AAS-NEH fellows are expected to be in regular and continuous residence at the Society.
