The Color Green
The Graduate Program in Art & Architectural History at UVa requests submissions to its biannual symposium. This year’s theme will explore the many connotations of the color green. Papers must incorporate the literal and/or symbolic value of green and should be rooted in spatial, historical, art historical or literary analysis.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to, commerce & the art market, Chinese jade objects, the use of green as an exponent of Islamic nationalism, 18th & 19th century landscape paintings, green architecture, verdure in Renaissance trompe l’oeil, contemporary environmental art & land art, & the religious symbolism of green in Medieval art.
Submissions should include a CV & abstract of no more than 300 words. Papers will be strictly limited to 20 minutes.
