The Postdoctoral Fellowship in Conservation Science, a 2-year program that begins in September 2011, will emphasizes the application of science to the question of museum lighting; in particular, the extent to which the range of techniques for illuminating works of art can be improved or modified to provide a higher margin of safety when applying exhibition illumination guidelines.
Applications are welcome from scientists of all nationalities who are interested in pursuing a career in conservation science and have received a PhD in chemistry/physical science no earlier than 2005. A background in the humanities is helpful, and strong science working practices are essential. Candidates should be familiar with basic practices and theory in polarizing light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, GC, GC-MS, FTIR, or thermal analysis.
