Acting (on) the text: the case of new media

Type: Calls For Papers [View all]
Posted by: University of Buenos Aires
Deadline: 01/15/13

New technologies transform the materiality of the text as a container of information, as well as the activity of reading and writing in new (meta)spaces. With special focus on cultural, societal, and political implications, the journal of comparative literary studies Synthesis invites a critical discussion of new media aiming to re-examine the relations across information, user, and medium under a new paradigm of interactivity, and questions of ethics, responsibility, and the role of the participating audience. Topics include reading/writing in digital cultures as a social activity, hybrid spaces across the private and public sphere, multimodality, augmented reality, community art projects, formulations of identity, and the centre/periphery binary. Article proposals of 800-1000 words, and a 300 words bio-note, should be sent to Eve Kalyva (e.m.kalyva@gmail.com) and Christos Physentzides (christosphy@gmail.com) by 15 January 2013. For information, see http://synthesis.enl.uoa.gr.
