About The Art Bulletin
The Art Bulletin publishes leading scholarship in the English language in all aspects of art history as practiced in the academy, museums, and other institutions. From its founding in 1913, the journal has published, through rigorous peer review, scholarly articles and critical reviews of the highest quality in all areas and periods of the history of art. Articles take a variety of methodological approaches, from the historical to the theoretical. In its mission as a journal of record, The Art Bulletin fosters an intensive engagement with intellectual developments and debates in contemporary art-historical practice. It is published four times a year: in March, June, September, and December. The Art Bulletin is published in print and online and available as a benefit of CAA membership.
The Art Bulletin welcomes submissions from scholars worldwide and at every stage in their career. Please read the submission and style guidelines for more information on the process.
Publishing The Art Bulletin: Past, Present, and Future
In celebration of the one-hundredth anniversary of the first issue of The Art Bulletin, Thelma K. Thomas, associate professor at the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University and chair of the Art Bulletin Editorial Board, created a website, “Publishing The Art Bulletin: Past, Present, and Future,” in collaboration with the Scalar project of the Alliance for the Networking of Visual Culture and the University of Southern California, which helped to fund the project. In 2011, CAA published The Art Bulletin Centennial Anthology. Compiled by the members of the journal’s 2010 editorial board, the Centennial Anthology compiled important articles since the journal’s first publication in 1913.
The journal is archived at Taylor & Francis Online and indexed in Bibliography of the History of Art, Art Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Back issues may also be read online in ProQuest, Ebsco, and other online archives.
