Peace & Justice

The Exhibition: The Arts Center/Gallery’s (ACG) is seeking artwork submissions related to any an all interpretations of the broad theme of peace and justice. The curated exhibition will present a diverse examination of the theme while emphasizing media/material experimentation.

The Arts Center/Gallery: Delaware State University’s Arts Center/Gallery (ACG) brings to the University community and the community-at-large a variety of cultural and educational exhibits that promote excellence in the arts and humanities.  The ACG and accompanying programs play an important role in arts education processes in schools and community settings throughout the state of Delaware. 

Deadline: All submissions must be received via email by August 20, 2018. Completed entries must include required information (see below), curriculum vitae, and artwork image(s).

Fees: There is no submission fee. There is a maximum of three (3) entries per artist.

Eligibility: The competition is open to all artists, 18 years or older.

Requirements: All submitted works must be original and have been created within the past five years. All objects and installations must be designed to be exhibited on the wall, floor or pedestal. Works to be hung from wall must be constructed and wired to accommodate installation using appropriate hooks and wires. Framing must be to professional standards. Cardboard backing is not permitted. ‘Sawtooth’ hangers are not permitted. Poorly matted or framed works are subject to disqualification. Plain white, cream or black mats are preferred. Double matting is permitted for two-dimensional works under glass. Wall hung objects submitted for this exhibition must be no larger then 60” in any direction. Sculptures and installations requiring specific bases, pedestals, and other specific display furnishings, should have installation equipment provided by the artist in coordination with artwork.

*The ACG reserves the right to refuse selected artwork that is not ready for installation at the time of delivery.

How to Enter: Email submissions should detail the below information and be sent to delstatearts@gmail.com.

    1. Artist Informationto include Artist NameAddressEmail Addressand Phone Number.

    2. Artwork informationfor each entry that includes Artwork TitleMedium/MaterialsDimensions and Artwork Statement (detailing interpretation of theme).

    3. Attachments

        a. Artist Curriculum Vitae

        b. Images: Artists may submit three (3) high-resolution (300dpi) images per entry. This includes a full view and up to two (2) detail shots for up to three (3) entries. Label images as artistlastname_artistfirstname_entry1. Artists may also include up to two (2) details of any entry. Label these images as artistlastname_artistfirstname_entry1_detail1.

Notification: Artists with selected artwork will be notified via email on or before August 31, 2018. At that time, artists will be sent specific details on delivery and presentation of work for the exhibition. Selected works must be delivered to the ACG on or before September 21, 2018. Artwork may be shipped to the ACG but must arrive with appropriate return process. Delivery and return of all works is the responsibility of the artist.

Exhibition: October 4 – November 9, 2018

Opening Reception: October 4, 2018

Retrieval of Works: By November 16, 2018

Liability: The ACG will insure the selected works against theft, damage and loss while on premises. This liability will commence upon delivery of artwork to ACG and conclude on or before November 16, 2018. The ACG is not responsible for work once it is removed from the premises or while in transit to or from the gallery. The ACG is not responsible for works left after the pick-up date following the close of the exhibition. The ACG reserves the right to reproduce selected works for educational and marketing purposes. Artists retain all other rights. All accepted artwork must remain for the duration of the exhibition.

Works for Sale: Applicants must indicate prior to the selection process if works are for sale. Artwork for sale must be priced by the artist.
