Summer Graduate Fellowship-Art History

Type: Awards, Grants, Fellowships [View all]
Posted by: The Johnson Collection
Deadline: Fri, March 1st, 2019

The Johnson Collection is seeking a currently enrolled graduate student in art history—ideally with an emphasis in nineteenth- and/or twentieth-century American art—to fill a research fellowship for the summer of 2019 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Applicants should be intellectually curious, self-disciplined, and possess excellent writing skills. This eight-week position includes housing on a local college campus and a $2,400 stipend for the selected fellow.

Fellowship responsibilities will center on comprehensive research related to the collection’s holdings and artists associated with the American South. This study will be conducted at the collection’s Spartanburg office using its library and curatorial resources. Research on each assigned artist/object must result in a brief written biographical/critical analysis suitable for publication (digital/print), as well as notes for future investigation. This post requires thirty hours per week over a period of eight weeks between mid-May and early August, 2019 (precise dates to be determined with appointed fellow; collection will be flexible).

Please submit cover letter, brief CV, two letters of recommendation, and writing sample to Sarah Tignor, stignor@johnsondevelopment.net. Application deadline is March 1, 2019.
