Submissions are now open for Pleiades Gallery first 

National Exhibition of American Art. 

The theme for this exhibition is “Altered States: A state of mind that deviates from what is thought to be a normal state of consciousness.”
Artists often reinterpret reality in their art, using their own visions to create new possibilities. We are interested in seeing artist’s interpretations and perceptions of unconventional ideas, dreamscapes and elaborate fantasy worlds. 

The Jurors for this exhibition are members of Pleiades Gallery: 

Denise Adler, Al Benkin and Joseph O’Neill 

The exhibition will consist of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art works in all media. The size limitation for wall-hung work is 60 inches high by 40 inches wide (including frame.) Free-standing work may not exceed 30 inches wide by 30 inches deep by 96 inches high. Sorry no performance or video art. 

Entry Deadline is December 2nd, 2019 (11:59pm) EST. 

Entry Fee: $35 for 2 works, $5 each additional work up to a maximum of 10. 

The entry fee is non-refundable. 

Artists will be notified by December 20th. 

The exhibition will run from January 23rd thru February 15th, 2020 Opening reception on Saturday, January 25th from 3 to 6 pm 

Submission rules and guidelines: 

•This call for entries is competitive; entrants are not guaranteed inclusion in the exhibition by sub- mitting an entry. Depending on the number and the quality of the entries received, the work of an entrant may or may not be curated into the show. The selection of the curators is final. 

•Artworks should be fully prepared, wired for safe hanging and must meet professional standards. No saw tooth hangers will be accepted. All work must be available for the duration of the exhibition. 

•If Installation is difficult, artist must be present. Plexiglass for shipped work, no glass unless hand delivered 

•Please send the entry fee thru PayPal, “Friends and Family” to ebradshaw2@nyc.rr.com. Please re- member to make a note with your name and “Altered States Entry” in the note line on PayPal. Then submit your images by e-mail to pleiadesgallery@gmail.com as per the instructions below. Please include “Altered States Entry” in the subject line. Failure to follow the instructions may result in the nullification of your entry. 

•Images must be in JPEG format: JPEGs must be 72 dpi, they should be at least 600 pixels but not greater than 1280 pixels in any direction. Maximum file size for any individual image is 1 MB. 

• Image Labeling: 

JPEG images MUST BE labeled as follows: 

YOUR LAST Name_FIRST Name_TitleOfWork_Number that corresponds with that work’s placement 

on your entry. (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.): smith_joe_Untitled_1.jpg; smith_joe_FieldOfFlowers_2.jpg etc. 

File names of a maximum 40 characters should only contain letters of the English alphabet and underscores. Please note: Titles may be abbreviated to comply with limit. 

• In the body of your submission e-mail please include: 

a) your name;
b) Email address;
c) your address and telephone;
d) titles of all included art photos with corresponding file names;
e) sizes of art h”X w” X d”* and prices for all work entered;**
e) your own personal website address (not a social media or collective page), if you have one; 

f) Artist statement and a Short Bio. 

*If an artwork is framed the dimensions should be the framed size.
**Artworks entered to the call do not have to be for sale. Any work is not for sale should be labeled N.F.S. All sales are the responsibility of the Artist. 

Pleiades Gallery does not take a commission on any art work sold. 

All art submitted must be original work by artists 18 years or older.
By entering, entrants automatically accept the conditions of the competition; they grant Pleiades Gallery non- exclusive right to use and reproduce submitted artwork for promotional (e.g.: website and Facebook page of the Gallery, catalogue) and exhibition purposes. No royalties or compensation will be paid for these purposes. All copyrights and ownership of the works are retained by the artists. Entrants assume and accept all legal and financial responsibility for any infringement on the privacy rights or copyright of others, caused by creating
or presenting their work in public. Pleiades Gallery retains the right to exclude from the competition entries that violate the conditions of the competition and ones that violate any human or privacy rights. No violent or harmful art will be selected. 

All artwork must be sent to the galley, shipped or dropped off on January 16th or 17th, 2020, between 11 to 6 p.m. If unable to hand-deliver your work, contact Mari Winterdale for shipping. She will work with you on ship- ping, unpacking, repacking and return of artwork, You must include a prepaid coded return label with your shipped artwork. Removal of hand delivered work will be on February 18th and 19th from 11 to 6. 

LIABILITY 

Pleiades Gallery will not be responsible for any loss or damage to work while on the premises or in transit to or from the gallery. The payment of the entry fee will serve as your acceptance of the terms and conditions stated in this prospectus. Acceptance of a work of art to this exhibition shall be understood to constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to the terms and conditions stated in this prospectus. 

 

Pleiades Gallery was founded in 1974 by a group of like-minded artist who sought an alternative to the dic- tated constraints of the commercial gallery world. One of the oldest cooperative galleries in New York City, Pleiades was a leading participant in the Association of Artis Run Galleries and the cooperative movement
of the 1970’s. Located in Chelsea among the most prestigious galleries in New York, Pleiades exhibits highly professional contemporary work by its artist members.
