Residency Winter 2020/2021 | Arts Letters & Numbers | Upstate NY

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: Arts, Letters and Numbers
Deadline: Sun, February 28th, 2021

This Winter, between December and February, we are offering a limited number of people the opportunity to come to our Averill Park campus, to live and independently pursue their creative works.

We recognize that after many months in isolation, people are in need of a change in context to connect to their creative endeavors. We call this program: Pilot Light, and it is an adapted version of our regular Residency program. The primary difference from our regular residency being the absence of programs, community events, communal dinners etc. Participating artists in this program will be offered private accommodation and studio space for a reduced price of $250 a week. During this time each person will be fully independent, yet co-exist in shared spaces.

PRIORITY

At the moment, this program will only be offered to artists currently located within the US, who can arrive to ALN without the use of public transportation. Priority will be given to artists who will stay for a longer duration of time, and we will have a detailed quarantine procedure upon arrival, as well as, protocols for social distancing during the stay.

ARRIVAL

Upon arrival, you will be given a tour of the facilities by an ALN affiliate, a run through of the protocols of the facilities and covid guidelines.

ACCOMMODATION

You will be assigned a private bedroom in either the House on the Hill or in the Twins apartment. The house will house up to 5 people (each with a private bedroom and sharing 2 bathrooms). The twin apartment will house up to 2 people (each with a private bedroom and sharing 1 bathroom). Both housing options have a shared kitchen and common areas.

STUDIO

You will be assigned a studio space that best suits your practice. In this time we will offer you a private studio space or a shared space in our larger rooms with plenty of distance to other residents.

EXPECTATION

You will be self-sufficient and self organizing: get yourself the supplies and groceries you need.

You will keep up the maintenance of the spaces you use, both during your stay and upon departure.

You will treat others and our facilities with care and consideration.

You will be mindful of others spaces and leave shared spaces clean and inviting for others to use.

SUPPORT

There will be ALN affiliates around and we are always happy to engage and help out. Please know that during this time, we are low in numbers and we are also taking these months to recalibrate our operations and programs toward a future ALN. We will be around to check in on how things are going, and talk about any adjustments that need to be made as we are navigating these new waters together.

COVID GUIDELINES

Staying at ALN you will become part of an ecosystem. During this time you will be asked to follow the guidelines provided, and respect the integrity of the spaces, property and personal spaces.

To minimize the COVID spread we require everyone staying with us to: Avoid using public transportation for arrival

Stay for a minimum of 2 weeks

Accept that new people will come on the days mentioned above

Clean and wipe off shared surfaces on a daily basis

Minimize exposure to people and situations outside of ALN

Respect the potential restrictions in use of spaces

Agree as these guidelines will be updated to reflect the changing situation in relation to state guidelines Sign a waiver agreeing to respect the above guidelines
