The second-year students in Tufts University’s Masters program in the History of Art and Architecture are pleased to present The Elephant in the Room: An Examination of Animals in the Arts. Please join us on March 5th and 6th for this virtual symposium featuring keynote speaker Dr. Jessica Landau (University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Museum of Natural History) and presentations from scholars of visual culture representing institutions across the United States and abroad.

In addition to the keynote address, four panel discussions will take place across two days, from 10AM-2PM EST. Panel discussions include “Deities, Dragons, and Demons: Animals in Magic and Myth;” “To See and Be Seen: Theatricality, Artifice, and Optics in Representations of Animals;” “From Medieval Manuscripts to Modern Children’s Books: Animals Between Text and Image;” and “Dismantling Boundaries: Reconsidering the Human/Non-Human Binary.”
