Thematic Focus: Revisiting John Cage
The 12th Annual ReVIEWING Black Mountain College conference will have a thematic focus on the remarkable and far-reaching impact of John Cage’s ideas and practices. Cage was a radical thinker, composer, musician, collaborator, visual artist, writer, and Buddhist. His legacy in music, performance, and visual art is incalculable. Through Revisiting John Cage, BMCM+AC encouragesexpansive conversation on, and responses to, the composer’s works and influences through a broad and global perspective. Proposals on any topic related to Black Mountain College and its legacy are also welcome and will be considered. Furthermore, in the spirit of BMC, the conference challenges disciplinary boundaries, and therefore performances, multi-media panel proposals, and workshops are welcome.
The conference fee is $75 and includes lunch on Saturday and a 1-year membership to the museum. The fee for current members is $40. A limited number of scholarships may be available for early-career scholars and emerging artists, prioritizing BIPOC and international applicants. Inquiries may be submitted to info@blackmountaincollege.org.
Please submit proposals using this submission form (https://forms.gle/q1kcjpjUxARhYP2V9) by July 15, 2021. If you have questions or need assistance, contact info@blackmountaincollege.org.
