Tusen Takk 2022-23 Residency Program

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: Tusen Takk Foundation
Deadline: Thu, July 15th, 2021

TUSEN TAKK RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Residencies at Tusen Takk are geared for both emerging and established artists to explore new ideas or expand current work that will affirm and enrich the human spirit, giving form to chaos and perception to beauty.

Tusen Takk was designed to host one resident, or two in collaboration, and welcomes applications for 3-8 week-long residencies from visual artists in photography, printmaking, sculpture, painting, as well as creative writers and music composers. Artists should be self-motivated so they can be productive in the isolation afforded by a residency with a giving spirit that’s exemplified by a willingness to share insights with audiences about their work and processes. While in residence, artists are asked to engage with the local arts community in either in a private or public context.

Artists-in-residence are provided housing with 24/7 access to the Foundation’s Studios. Highlights of the Studios include: a fully equipped digital photography studio and analogue darkroom for making the finest photographic prints, an etching studio for printmaking (including photogravure), a woodshop, and a painting studio to accommodate making large works, all in a modernist architectural space brilliantly designed by world-renowned architect Peter Bohlin. In addition, financial assistance is provided to the artist in the form of an honorarium of $625/week, and arrangements can be made to use the Director’s Library and Collection as a resource for learning and inspiration.

ABOUT TUSEN TAKK
Named for an expression of thankfulness, the Tusen Takk Foundation nourishes artists by giving them a place to work, engagement opportunities to enrich the culture of Northwest Michigan, and a platform to share their work internationally.

Located on an isolated peninsula in Northwest Michigan, Tusen Takk’s setting in the quiet, forested dunes on a seemingly infinite body of water offers artists time to slow down and reflect in a place that is regenerative by its nature. Designed with intention and care, Tusen Takk is a functional “making place” with studios that provide artists with spaces to imagine and create their work.
