Are you interested in expanding your knowledge and skillset with graphic design from typography to design thinking or even design history? Are you interested in an immersive learning experience combined with a getaway retreat? Are you keen on a nature immersion combined with handcraft and exploring the art of accidental adventure?

December 26, 2021 - January 5, 2022, join up to 6 others for a 10-night live/work design intensive residency for the non-designer with the purpose to enhance your understanding of design history and design principles/elements to integrate into your own practice. Experience design as a handcraft and evolve your nuance to typography, design concepts, and more. Individual consultation is also available for updating your personal brand, cv, or website.

Venture to a lovely nature immersion in the Western Highland Rim region of mid-south Tennessee where there is little light pollution. Stay in the comfort of the Camp’s Lemon Lodge featuring two wood-burning stoves and enough space for the small group to live and work. Utilize the quiet contemplation of the new moon phase as we close out 2021 together and look towards the future. Use the daylight time for exploring and the evening by the wood stove or campfire for nurturing your spirit. Your residency guide for design instruction is a former tenured design professor turned coach with more than 20 years working with designers and non-designers alike. This fun and immersive experience is one of a kind not available online or in traditional academic environments.

The 10 night (11 day) intensive will take you through phases of wonder and wander with the goal to gain skills for applying to your practice whether it be as an art entrepreneur or maybe a simple goal to integrate more refined type into your work. Slow down to notice the flora and fauna moments that the earth shares with us, and the phases the sun and moon provide while you reconnect with the handcraft of the creative process. Unleash your inner creative monster with daily prompts, journaling, reading discussions, exploring the design books, foraging, doodling, experimenting, paper craft, bookbinding, and more.

At the camp, you’ll also have the opportunity to interact with the 12 donkeys (some minis), chickens and a rooster, camp cats, a rabbit and a tripod Pyrenees. Even though the winter is set in there is still green and an inspirational color palette during this time period. Venture on walks to the Buffalo River during breaks. A complimentary Forest Therapy guided session is included on the first day of this design intensive residency.
