Art Space is Your Space Artist Residency

The Wave Pool Art Space Is Your Space Program awards sponsored residencies to local, national, and international artists interested in engaging Cincinnati, Ohio with their artistic practice. Residencies of 2-6 weeks include flexible live/work studio space, a month long exhibition in our gallery (when appropriate), opportunities for artistic community engagement and programming, and a $2000 stipend for the project (which includes living/travel expenses). Residents become part of the dynamic artistic community in Cincinnati and are asked to engage the community in at least one public workshop, program, or performance during their stay.

Wave Pool’s artist in residency program is unique in that the artists stay in an apartment adjacent to the gallery space, and conduct a project aimed at a specific audience and/or purpose within our diverse urban climate.

Additionally, we have a new kind of artist residency program that builds on the local Sara M. and Michelle Vance Waddell Collection. This collection is comprised of world class work by female-identifying artists who have and are working to resist oppression, subvert public scrutiny, and suggest alternative visual paradigms within the personal and political spheres. This residency, like our others, will be socially-engaged, working collaboratively with our neighborhood and specific community groups within it. The artist will have access to the Vance Waddell collection to respond to and build their project from as they create something new, needed, and proactive for our community.

The selected inspirational work(s) from the Vance Waddell collection will be on public view during the residency as part of an exhibition. More importantly however, we hope that the work(s) will be activated through the social engaged artist project and will extend the messages of these historically significant works out into our community with programs and partnerships.
