Anima Loci is a visual culture journal focused on the interdisciplinary exploration of the relationship between image and place.
We publish articles and photo-essays that explore this theme from a variety of perspectives and disciplines. We currently are calling for submissions from photographers and other visual practitioners for our photo-essay section. Ideally, we are looking for contributors with a writing/research aspect to their practice.
Example perspectives on this relationship between image and place include:
- Cultural memory, history and archives
- Psychogeography, architecture and the urban space
- Monuments and the commemorative
- Place-making, identity, territoriality and marginality
- Cultural production and artefacts Landscape and ’natural’ monuments
The photo-essay format consists of 6-10 images and a 600-1500 word text that explores the project with respect to the Anima Loci editorial theme. Please note that the text should not be a general artist statement, but rather a further exploration of the subject and its implications. The text should not have been published elsewhere.
