Type: Calls For Papers [View all]
Posted by: Nineteenth Century Studies Association
Deadline: Sun, September 30th, 2012
The 19th century set the world on the move; new movements swept people into fresh vistas of thought and endeavor as well. We seek papers and panels that capture the sense of movement at work & at play during the long 19th century (1789-1914).
Suggested topics include: Gold Rushes (Mineral Manias and Speculative Destinations), Maps and Cartography, The Science of Exploration, Time Travel and Travel into Space, The West as Destination and Concept, Celebrity Performance Tours, Movement of Goods and Ideas, Migration and Relocation, Expeditions, New Forms of Creative Motion (Moving Pictures, Photography, Dance, Music). We also welcome other interpretations of the conference theme.
Please e-mail 250-word abstracts for 20-minute papers that provide the author’s name and paper title in the heading, as well as a one-page cv, to Prof. Toni Wein at
NCSAfirstname.lastname@example.org. Graduate students whose proposals are accepted may then submit complete papers in competition for a travel grant.
