Professional Practices Committee
Description
The Professional Practices Committee responds to specific concerns of the membership in relation to areas such as job placement and recruitment, tenure and promotion procedures, scholarly standards and ethics, studio health and safety, and artists’ practices. The Professional Practices Committee also oversees the Standards and Guidelines.
Recent Projects
In line with CAA's practice to update regularly its Standards and Guidelines for professional practices in the visual arts, the Board of Directors approved one new and four revised guidelines at its meeting on October 23, 2011:
- Professional Practices for Artists (revised)
- Standards for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Degrees in Studio Art (revised)
- Standards for the Associate of Fine Arts Degree (new)
- Peer Review in CAA Publications (revised)
- Standards for the Retention and Tenure of Art and Design Faculty (revised)
The Professional Practices Committee, chaired by Charles Wright of Western Illinois University, worked with subcommittees over the past several years. Maria Ann Conelli, CAA vice president for committees, presented the documents to the board for approval.
The committee is also reviewing other CAA Standards and Guidelines and will appoint task forces to revise them as necessary.
