Sandstorm is a peer reviewed arts and literature journal edited by students and faculty at the University of Texas Permian Basin. We publish the best poetry, fiction, and art from around the world and West Texas. Sandstorm particularly seeks artwork that deals with social consciousness.
Submissions for Poetry or Prose:
Contact information (no cover letter needed)
50 – 100 word bio
All manuscripts should be in Times New Roman, 12 points, double spaced
We appreciate work that is punctuated and grammatical.
Submissions for Art:
Artists working in 2D, 3D, and video are encouraged to apply. Artwork must be made within the last three years. To be considered for publication, submit the following in PDF:
A one page artist statement (250 words maximum)
Artist bio (up to 100 words)
Up to three jpeg images of artwork and artwork description
(Artists will need to attach their Artwork Description under the section named “additional file” after initial submission of their work. You will also attach jpeg images (300 dpi) of your work under “ additional file.”
Please format image files as below.
Lastname_Firstname_Artworktitle.jpg
Images should be sized 1200 pixels on the long edge and image resolution 300 dpi .
Video, time-based, or performance works should be represented with a single still image linked within the PDF.
Artwork description should use the following format. We will not consider works without proper description.
Artist name, artwork title [italicized], medium, dimension [height x width x depth], (year)
(Example) John Doe, Sandstorm, pigment print, 30”x20”, (2021)

Upon clicking the link, you will be prompted to sign into your Digital Commons account. If you do not have an account, you will need to create one. These accounts are free of charge. The account will enable you to track your submission, receive usage reports, and reach a wider audience through the Digital Commons repository. Once you create your account, you will be taken to the submission page.
To attach images and additional documents, go to My Account page and select the title of your submission. It will be listed under the SANDSTORM: A JOURNAL OF ARTS AND LETTERS heading. Next, select Manage Additional Files from the left-hand sidebar. Scrolling to the bottom of that page, you’ll find where to upload the image file.
