The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for the design, fabrication, and installation of a public sculpture on the UAB campus. UAB is an internationally renowned research university and academic medical center known for its innovative and interdisciplinary approach to education. Located in the Southside neighborhood of downtown Birmingham, Alabama, the campus occupies more than 100 blocks containing a mix of academic, commercial, and residential spaces.

The commissioned sculpture will be located outside of the Hill Student Center. A high-traffic campus area, the student center serves 20,000+ students as a communal meeting place offering student services, meals, books, and activities. Artists may see the RFQ for more information, including the guidelines, timeline, and selection process. Selected finalists will be given a $2,000 honorarium to develop a site-specific proposal, including a maquette.

Applications are open from September 27, 2026 – October 22, 2026. Installation is expected in July – August 2027.
