Open Call

We are seeking submissions for a book of performance scores/directions/instructions that focus on listening, conversation, civic engagement, and consumption (of culture, media, art, politics, etc.). We have been collecting such pieces since 2006, inspired by Fluxus, Pauline Oliveros, Paulo Freire, bell hooks, the Situationists, ActUp and Occupy. We feel this book is relevant to the current socio-political climate, one in which people are deeply questioning how they participate in society. We intend to publish a book of these pieces in 2018.

We are looking at situations that are typically regarded as “passive,” such as watching cable news, using social media or listening to someone speak, and experimenting with how these situations can be active or activated. We are also looking at situations that are typically regarded as “active”, such as participating in a community gathering or political demonstration, and experimenting with how these situations can be more meaningful, fun and/or egalitarian. This is about how we engage, revolt, and live.

We want text scores only-- not drawings, notation, diagrams, collages, etc.

Contributors will receive a copy of the book, when it is finished.
