"Reality Sandwiches" Exhibition, Feb 2018

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Women's Caucus for Art
Deadline: Fri, November 17th, 2017

Artists are invited to submit artworks for the Young Womens Caucus exhibition at ArtShare LA during the February 2018 WCA and CAA conferences in Los Angeles. Open to all self-identified women artists between the ages of 18 and 35 with reduced entry fees for WCA members. Works will be selected by renown artist Alison Saar.

The theme of ’Reality Sandwiches’ is inspired by a collection of Allen Ginsberg’s poems of that same title. Ginsberg conceived of reality sandwiches as scribbled secret notebooks and wild typewritten pages for your own joy. In that light, and tying it in with the overall conference theme of Art Speaks! Lend Your Voice, we invite artists to depict their current reality, their view of the current state of reality or where they wish for their reality to be.

Juror is Alison Saar: Internationally known, Los Angeles based artist Alison Saar is a sculptor, painter and installation artist whose work explores themes of African cultural diaspora and spirituality.

We invite arts educators and others to encourage entries from young women artists aged 18-35. We have reserved an adjacent room to the gallery space for conversations and to provide outreach materials on Young Women’s Caucus, student clubs and other topics of interest.  A ticketed evening of performances will follow in the adjacent theater at ArtShare LA.

The annual WCA conference takes place this year in Los Angeles February 22 - 24, 2018. CAA is meeting concurrently in LA.
