Artist Residency

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: Walnut Gallery
Deadline: Sat, August 31st, 2019

The Walnut Gallery seeks a ceramic/clay artist for its artist in residence program.  The gallery will provide a living space and ceramic studio for the artist for a period of 9 months.  October 1, 2019 - June 2020.  The artist will pay $500 upon signed contract agreement, and $200 monthly to offset the cost of utilities and clay during the residency.

Walnut Gallery’s resident artist program provides a living and studio space in a supportive environment that encourages interaction, dialogue, and a rich studio exploration culminating in a solo exhibition at the Walnut Gallery. The program gives artists the opportunity to develop their practice in a community that encourages interaction with artists and educators, alongside the galleries regional and national artist exhibitions, and outreach educational programs.

As members of Walnut Gallery’s community, resident artists contribute to the organization’s broader mission of connecting the public to contemporary art and artists. Resident artists supervise the gallery Monday – Friday 3-5PM, assist with exhibition installation and gallery maintenance, and engage in other community outreach activities.

In exchange for this work and the residency fee, Walnut Gallery will provide a living and studio space for the artist. The studio includes a Skutt 1027 kiln, Olympic medium test kiln, Bluebird Pug Mill, extruded, slab roller, Shimpo Whisper, limited slip, glaze, underglaze and mason stain materials, banding wheel, sink, wedging table, plaster table, and shelving.  A clay body will also be ordered and provided for the artist. Access hours to the studio are 7am – 9pm daily.

Apartment includes kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, gas stove, and side by side refrigerator, 1 full bath that includes a shower/tub combo, a laundry area that includes shelving, washer, and dryer. Bedroom/living room that includes a queen size bed, side tables, dresser, flat screen tv, chairs, and a couch with fold out bed. Resident is responsible for internet/cable service.
