Welcome (M)Art

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: Wave Pool
Deadline: Tue, August 31st, 2021

The Welcome (M)ART program is a unique opportunity to create an immersive and interactive installation at The Welcome Project, a space that centers the immigrant and refugee experience and includes a small food market and teaching kitchen in the Camp Washington Community in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Socially Engaged Art (SEA) has a history of using food to achieve both social connection and critical commentary. Food is often utilized as a quick convener of communities and can bring us easily into dialogue on issues of power, place, sustainability, and culture.

Welcome (M)ART upends the disconnect between museums and community spaces, offering food-based social practice art projects in a space designed to both reach intended audiences in a real and accessible way while also offering the context of an arts center to best publicize and offer curatorial accreditation for the works created.

Selected project grant awardees will receive:

A $5,000 project stipend to create an immersive, thought provoking, and interactive installation at The Welcome Project along with several related public programs and events over a three month period.

Programming and installation support from Wave Pool.

Staffing support to help execute the experience for the public during open hours.

We aim to have seasonal projects, beginning with the first one in Winter 2022 (January-March).

We hope to select all four residencies for 2022 from this annual open call.

Welcome (M)ART is generously funded by the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr. Foundation
