The Wabash College Art Department seeks artists with demonstrated experience in and a commitment to socially engaged art practice and/or community-based art projects to apply for our Restoring Hope, Restoring Trust Artist-in-Residence position for Spring 2024. The Artist-in-Residence will be a mentor for undergraduate students and engage in creative collaborations that involve students/campus community and local community partners in Crawfordsville/Montgomery County. 

Restoring Hope/Restoring Trust Artist-in-Residence Expectations

·      Design a project(s) for and co-teach an undergraduate course focused on socially engaged art that results in a collaborative public project, event, or performance. 

·      Mount a solo exhibition of previously completed works that will open at the beginning of the term and run for the duration of the residency.

·      Give a public lecture at the beginning of the residency

·      Hold a series of public engagements, discussions, or workshop events associated with exhibition/residency.

·      Attend monthly meetings with the program directors. 

·      Mentor undergraduate students interested in art and social justice.

How to Apply

Submit a Single PDF with the following materials

·      Cover letter discussing your commitment to and experience with socially engaged art and/or community art practice. Outline your interest in this residency and what you would like to accomplish if awarded the opportunity. 

·      10 examples of your work (time-based work should have a url link) including descriptions of the projects and a link to your professional website.

·      List of 3 professional references with contact info – no letters needed at time of application

Stipend $25,000

Exhibition Budget $3,000

Travel stipend $1,800

Furnished Apartment on campus or other residence and meal plan provided for term

Access to Art Department facilities and library resources
