Infinite Weight/Present Histories: University of West Georgia 2023 National Juried Photography Exhibition is seeking contemporary photographic and lens-based works. The exhibition looks to explore ideas from the conceptual to the speculative, while recognizing photography’s inherent referential capacity. Any photographic or lens-based medium, such as, but not limited to: historic processes, silver-gelatin, digital production, including all single channel video works are encouraged for entry. This exhibition is open to national artists of all levels (18 years and older).

The Juror:

Maria L. Kelly is the Assistant Curator of Photography at the High Museum of Art. During her time at the High, Maria has helped organize more than twenty-five photography installations, including exhibitions featuring the work of Helen Levitt, Abelardo Morell, Sheila Pree Bright, Wynn Bullock, Gordon Parks, and Thomas Struth, among others.

Maria holds an M.A. from Columbia University and a B.A. from the University of Georgia, both in art history. Previously, she worked at The Sir Elton John Photography Collection and the Brooklyn Museum, and has held internships at The Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Georgia Museum of Art.

• Application submission deadline: August 18th, 2023.

• Notification of accepted works: September 1st, 2023.

• The exhibition will be from October 20 to November 17, 2023 at The Vault Gallery located in the Wadsworth Auditorium,
25 Jefferson St, Newnan, GA 30263.

• The reception is Friday, October 27, 6-8pm. Juror’s talk and awards will be announced at the opening reception and accepted artworks are required to remain in the Vault Gallery for the duration of the exhibition. Keep up with the Vault Gallery @Vault_Gallery_Newnan

• Each entrant will receive a copy of the exhibition catalog.

Submission Requirements:

• Artists may submit up to 6 images.

• Please submit all images in the following format:
-File size: 2400 pixels on the longest side in JPG format

save at maximum quality -Lastname_FirstName_01.jpg (Smith_Jane_01.jpg,

Smith_Jane_02.jpg, etc...)
-Include a brief artist statement (max. 500 words) and bio

(max. 250 words).

• For video please submit a link to youtube or vimeo as well as a screenshot of your piece in the format and naming convention listed above. The screenshot may be utilized in the exhibition catalog.

Awards: Over $500.00 in awards 

Entry Fee: A non-refundable entry fee of $30 is charged for up to 3 images with a fee of $5 for each additional image up to 6 images total. Credit card payments are accepted on the UWG exhibition payment webpage: https://giving.westga.edu/jpe/
