Since 2000, Artspace has provided emerging visual artists with time and space to explore their work in a supportive and thriving open studio environment in our historic building at the heart of downtown Raleigh.
Every year, Artspace selects up to two artists in an emerging stage of their professional careers to participate in the year-long residency. Resident artists receive 24-hour access to a private rent-free studio and a one-month exhibition at Artspace to be held up to one year after the close of the residency. The residency runs January – December 2024.
During their time at Artspace, artists benefit from opportunities for professional development and collaboration with peers including access to our community of 30+ professional artists and staff of arts administrators. Residents actively contribute to Artspace’s artistic and educational programming by participating in our city-wide monthly First Friday art walk, studio visits and tours, and paid teaching opportunities. Residents are also required to give a presentation, artist talk and/or demonstration to the public to coincide with their residency or exhibition.
Artists must be over 18 years of age and must currently reside in NC.
