(UU) Zine Series - Issue 2: Po(UU)er

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]

Deadline: Fri, May 31st, 2024

Is power autological? Is it a word that, when written or spoken, disperses its energy as it spreads through time and space; a word that has historically worked to undermine its own force, to harness its initial immense explosion from a state of nothing into something – to capture and control, to be coerced into every minute aspect of reality, every facet of life? Power is a basic element of all creation and destruction, of birth and death, of persistence or surrender, the difference between 1 and 0, on and off, existence and nonexistence. Or are all of our understandings of power the result of its working and shaping?

There are many types of power. Power as energy. Power as control. Military Power. Imperial Power. Bio-Power. Hard Power. Soft Power. Girl Power. Black Power. Power in Numbers. Collective Power. Power station. Power cord. Power button. Power Source. Power outage. Action requires power. Reaction requires power. Resistance requires power. Resilience requires power.

What does power look like? What does power feel like? Does power begin as pure and become tainted when interacted with? When harnessed? Can we exist within a balanced flow of power? Can power ever be equal? Can we imagine power without hierarchy? Power without opposition? Can power act of its own accord?

This is a call for works, texts, proposals, etc. for the Po(UU)er zine. The first zine, and information on the Utopian Universal (UU) Series, is here: https://utopianmegaproject.com/uu.html
