ANN: Aging Futures: Conserving Time-based Media Art
Type: Conferences & Symposia [View all]
Posted by: University Art Gallery (UAG), University of Pittsburgh
Deadline: Thu, April 25th, 2024
The ways in which physical objects degrade over time are generally understood: drawings fade, paintings crack, sculptures fall apart – but how does time-based media art age? This edition of Turning Points focuses on the special concerns in the conservation of time-based media. Guests Tina Rivers Ryan, Editor-in-Chief of Artforum, and Deena Engel, Clinical Professor Emerita of the Department of Computer Science at the Courant Institute Mathematical Sciences at New York University, will draw from their professional experiences to offer responses to these questions. In addition, we will address their collaborations with art institutions, artists, curators, and scholars alike on their practice of curating and writing on the conservation of time-based media art.
