The Star Chain of Arts Project is led by artist Xu Bing. Guided by the principles of participation and sharing, Xu Bing envision the project as follows: “By inviting artists from China and abroad, as well as individuals from diverse fields, to participate in the Xu Bing Space Art Residency Program, we share access to the satellite, enabling each participant to create their own work. This initiative seeks to integrate space technology with contemporary art, extend the reach of our thought into broader realms, and collectively explore this highly futuristic field.”
Eligibility: The appointment for this project is open to individuals of any age, gender, and nationality. Applicants can participate as individuals or in groups.
Artwork Requirements: Create space art that differs from terrestrial art by utilizing a specific satellite and the unique conditions of outer space. Artists-in-residence should have a foundational understanding of interdisciplinary research and space studies. Each artist is advised to use satellite resources for 1-3 orbits.
