CONFERENCE

Between Bomarzo and the Turano: Rediscovered Pathways

Website

The Municipality of Colle di Tora (Rieti) and the Municipality of Bomarzo (Viterbo), Italy, invite contributions to the intellectual trajectory of the international conference "Between Bomarzo and the Turano: Rediscovered Pathways", which aims to contextualize the recently rediscovered mural paintings in the castle of Bomarzo, related to the Orsini family’s holdings in Sabina between the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The conference seeks to discuss a broad cultural, artistic, literary, and historical framework of the environment in which the mural paintings were made, through an interdisciplinary, trans-historical, and intersectional approach.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Luisa Caporossi

(Director of restoration project, Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per la provincia di Viterbo e l’Etruria meridionale)

The conference will be held in person in Colle di Tora (Rieti) on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28, 2026. Proposals are welcome for pre-organized panels (including all the individual presentations) and for individual papers, with an indication of the relevance of the proposed paper to the conference.

In addition to proposals directly related to the indicated territories, original proposals concerning other historical periods (different from the one mentioned above) and other geographical areas will also be considered, provided they are connected to the Viterbo and Sabina regions and align with the following themes and the disciplinary fields listed below.
