 We are delighted to announce this year’s call for applications at  the Royal Academy Schools (London, UK):

The year-long Starr Fellowship Programme. 

 

The Starr Fellowship Programme is a one-year artist residency for professional artists who are U.S. citizens at the Royal Academy Schools in London.

 

The fellow becomes part of the Royal Academy Schools community, engaging with and contributing to the academic programme, accessing the facilities, workshops and wider RA. 

 

Relocation to the UK is required, and visa and travel costs are supported.

Inclusive and accessible application options are available.

The artist receives a stipend of at least £26,000 for the year (this includes the cost of accommodation in central London)

The residency is based in London, UK.

The Starr Fellowship

To apply, please submit your application via the Royal Academy Schools Slideroom portal by 8 December 2025, 11.59 PM (GMT).

Each application should include: 

A personal details and educational history form

Application statement

Media/portfolio (1–16 images, audio, video or a mix)

Application fee payment (No fee is required if you qualify for our application fee waiver, see below. For others, an application fee applies)

Reference 


There is no fee for applicants who qualify for a fee waiver (see our Fee Waiver and Reimbursement Guide). A fee applies otherwise. 

 

Further Information 

The Royal Academy Schools offers a three-year postgraduate programme for early-career contemporary fine artists from all nationalities, backgrounds, practices and mediums the opportunity to join a vibrant community focused on critical debate.

Students benefit from access to specialist workshops, lectures, group critiques, tutorials, and artist talks, as well as a rich programme of engagement with visiting artists, tutors and Royal Academicians at the Royal Academy.

 

We also offer our students: 

No tuition fees

A bursary of at least £4,000 per academic year.
