Call to Artists: PoetryXCollage Residencies Spring 2026
Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: Kolaj Institute
Deadline: Sun, March 8th, 2026
Kolaj Institute is now accepting applications for the PoetryXCollage Residencies, Spring 2026, offering artists two opportunities to work at the intersection of poetry and collage through a virtual residency and an in-person residency in New Orleans.
Since 2022, Kolaj Institute’s PoetryXCollage project has explored how poetic language and collage function together through residencies, workshops, exhibitions, and PoetryXCollage, a printed journal dedicated to this interdisciplinary practice. Poetry and collage both rely on fragmentation, juxtaposition, and rhythm to create meaning, inviting artists and audiences to engage complexity, nuance, and contemporary life.
The Elusive X: Virtual PoetryXCollage Residency is a five-session virtual residency taking place 21 February–22 March 2026. Led by poet and collagist Jennifer Roche, the residency invites artists to examine how the visceral, linguistic precision of poetry and the material, fragmented nature of collage inform one another. Guest speakers include S. Erin Batiste, who will discuss Black fem practice at this intersection, and Ric Kasini Kadour, who will present the history and curatorial vision of PoetryXCollage.
Early deadline: 31 January 2026
Final deadline: 14 February 2026
The Fragment as Verse on the Wall: In-Person PoetryXCollage Residency will take place at Kolaj Institute Gallery in New Orleans, Sunday, 12 April–Thursday, 16 April 2026, with required virtual meetings on 2 and 9 April 2026. Led by Ric Kasini Kadour, this residency focuses on creating work for the exhibition The Fragment as Verse, which considers how poetry-and-collage operates on the gallery wall. Artists will have 24-hour access to the gallery, studio, and material library, daily critique sessions, and the opportunity to present work at the exhibition opening on Saturday, 18 April 2026. The residency coincides with the New Orleans Poetry Festival (16–19 April 2026).
Early deadline: 28 February 2026
Final deadline: 8 March 2026
Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis until spaces are filled. Artists are encouraged to apply early. Responses may be sent up to two weeks after the final deadline.
